Ko wai mātou..

Te Kōhanga Reo o Ruruhira has been established in honour of Ruruhira Robin (Nepe Apatu) matriarch of Kahungunu and a strong leader of the Kōhanga Reo movement.

Te Kōhanga Reo o Ruruhira is apart of the Purotu whānau hub. The Pūrotu Whānau Hub is a collective of three kaupapa Māori-led initiatives (Purotu Limited, Taku wahine purotu, taku tane purotu trust, Real changes limited) that work in partnership to create intergenerational whānau well-being. The consortium brings together expertise in personal development, professional development, employment readiness, pastoral care, and childcare support to deliver a culturally responsive and holistic approach for whānau Māori well-being.

Te Kohanga Reo o Ruruhira is currently in the process of renovating our new premises to officially establish our kaupapa in the suburb of Onekawa. We are currently running our services as a whānau supported service from Te Poho o Tangiianui Marae.
